Wacom today announces the development of nextbeat – an interface device, aimed at professional DJ's, that provides a new way of creating and performing music. nextbeat is the first Wacom product to introduce touch technology and delivers proof of the company's commitment to developing products beyond pen technology. nextbeat is scheduled for release to the music industry across Europe and Japan in Summer 2009.

Dance music continues to evolve, with many prominent professional DJ's becoming music stars. Wacom is approaching the music industry using its extensive experience of introducing award-winning products to creative professionals in the design and digital imaging areas. nextbeat is the first product developed by Wacom that is based on its understanding of these creative industries, and the company is using its expertise in interface technology to diversify into a new sector.

nextbeat is a fully integrated professional DJ system, incorporating intuitive touch sensor controls and innovative live performance functions. Its wireless portable control unit enables performers to move free from the main device, resulting in more dynamic and energetic live performances, contrasting to the traditional style of DJs performing inside booths. nextbeat combines two digital players, a mixer, effector and sampler in a single lightweight and compact unit. In addition, nextbeat does not require a PC like many other DJ systems.

nextbeat will be presented at the Winter Music Conference from 24-28 March 2009 in Miami Beach,  Florida, USA, and the Musikmesse from 1-4 April 2009 in Frankfurt, Germany.
