Canon 5D shoots 26 Gigapixel Dresden panorama

On the roof of the building "Haus der Presse" on a cold bright day in September, a Canon 5D Mk II with a 400mm lens mounted on a photo-robot started a 172 minute tour to record a panorama of the city of Dresden. The tour resulted in 1.665 full format pictures of 21.4 Megapixels. The subsequent conversion of a whopping 102 GB of raw data by a computer with a main memory of 48 GB and 16 processors took a staggering 94 hours. With a total resolution of 297.500 x 87.500 pixels - or 26 Gigapixels - the picture is the largest in the world to date...
