Lightweight, Compact, Fast Standard Zoom Lens Designed for Exclusive Use with Digital SLR Cameras (APS-C Size), Featuring True Wide Angle

Mr. Morio Ono, President of Tamron Co., Ltd., announced today that Tamron will introduce in Spring 2006 the new SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD Aspherical [IF] (Model A16), a lightweight and compact fast standard zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras with smaller size image sensors.*

*Di (Digitally integrated)-II lenses are designed for exclusive use on digital cameras with smaller-size imagers. This lens is not designed for use with 35mm film cameras or digital SLR cameras with image sensors larger than 24mm x 16mm.

The new SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] is a lightweight, compact, fast standard zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras, expanding the product concept of the popular SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di zoom lens.

Two years after the SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di was launched as the standard for lightweight, compact, fast standard zoom lenses, it remains highly popular with advanced amateur and professional photographers alike. Now Tamron, moving with market trends, has unveiled a new design for fast standard zoom lenses used exclusively for digital SLR cameras that covers the easy to use angles of view: the focal length is equivalent to 26-78mm when converted to a 35mm format. In particular, the wide-angle focal length is established at 17mm (26mm equivalent) to obtain a wider angle of view than ordinary standard zoom lenses, while maintaining the remarkably lightweight and compact size of the earlier full frame zoom lens model.

Tamron 70-300mm Telephoto Zoom Now Upgraded and Available in Di Series

Mr. Morio Ono, President of Tamron Co., Ltd., announced today that Tamron will introduce in Spring 2006 the AF70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2 (Model A17) , featuring a Di* optical system designed for both digital and film cameras.

*Di (Digitally integrated) is a designation Tamron gives lenses featuring optical systems designed to meet the performance characteristics of digital SLR cameras as well as film cameras.

Tamron now offers a lightweight, compact, high-image-quality telephoto zoom lens with macro capability of 1:2 that can also be used with digital cameras—the AF70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2 (Model A17) . The new lens is a Di type lens using an optical system with improved multi-coating designed to function with digital SLR cameras as well as film cameras. With this 70-300mm telephoto zoom lens, flipping a macro switch in the focal length range of 180mm to 300mm obtains a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at a minimum focus distance as short as 95cm (37.4”), enabling close-up shots of flowers, insects, and other objects that normally require the use of a specially designed macro lens. Moreover, this is a zoom lens that casually offers the distant capture and foreshortening effect pleasures of the 300mm ultra-telephoto world.

The company's current product, the AF28-200mm Super XR (Model A03), made innovative use of XR (Extra Refractive Index) glass to achieve a remarkably lightweight, compact product that has won wide acclaim among photography fans and solidified Tamron's position as the original pioneer in product development of high power zoom lenses. Now, Tamron has made this lightweight, compact high power zoom lens available with the Di optical system with improved multi-coating for digital SLR cameras as well as film cameras, further enhancing its ease of use and popularity.
