With the launch of their new 3-megapixel Prego da3 model, Rollei are starting an entirely new line of digital cameras.
The Prego da3 is the entry model of a new family of powerful and compact, general-purpose digital cameras. With an image resolution of 3.2 megapixels, a high-quality 3x zoom lens, 5x digital zoom and both video and voice-recording options, the Prego da3 is the ideal entry-level digital camera. It will be available for € 179 (incl. VAT) from end of August 2004.

The 3.2-megapixel camera has a high-performance D-VarioApogon HFT zoom lens offering focal lengths from 36 mm right up to 108 mm (equivalent to 35mm photography). This 3x optical zoom is enhanced by a 5x digital zoom.

An LCD monitor with a diagonal of 1.8" (61k Pixel) leaves ample space for creative framing. In addition, there is an optical real-image zoom finder. Focus is automatically controlled within a range of 0.5 m to infinity. And for close-ups, there is a macro setting covering a range from 15 to 50 cm.
A host of features leave ample creative opportunities: Exposure may either be program-controlled automatically or manually in one-third increments from + to –2.0 EV. There is a choice of center-weighted average, multizone or spot metering. White balance with Auto plus presets for daylight, cloudy, tungsten and fluorescent ensures perfect color balance. The built-in flash offers Auto, fill-in, Off and red-eye reduction modes.
Either single frames or continuous shooting with two frames in a row are possible. The built-in self-timer has a delay of 10 s.

A special bonus is the movie mode of the Prego da3, which allows the recording of short video clips with 18 frames plus sound. For this purpose, the camera has an integral loudspeaker and microphone. The videos or stills are recorded as AVI or JPEG  (EXIF 2.2) files in the 16MB internal memory or, alternatively, on SD or MM cards. A USB 1.1 interface and a video output (NTSC, PAL) serve for connection to a PC or TV set..

Big Brother

The Rollei Prego da4 is the second new model in a versatile line of Rollei digital cameras.

By comparison with the entry-level model Prego da3, the Prego da4 has even more to offer: A 4.1-megapixel CCD is a sound basis for high-quality prints up to A4 size; a 3x D-VarioApogon zoom lens and a 3.3x digital zoom let you zoom in on your subject, and a video mode captures even moving images. The Prego da4 will be available for € 249 (incl. VAT) from September 2004.

4.1 million pixels, a high-performance 3x D-VarioApogon zoom lens 5.6-16.8mm (equivalent to approx. 36-108 mm in 35mm photography) with maximum apertures of f/2.8-4.9 and a 3.3x digital zoom are the heart of this powerful but compact digital camera from the new Prego series. Focusing is controlled automatically from 0.5 m to infinity; a macrofocus setting takes care of subject distances as short as 15 – 50 cm.
A 1.8-inch TFT color monitor (61k pixels) and an optical real-image zoom viewfinder make precise framing a cinch.

Apart from automatic modes for flash, exposure compensation and white balance, the Prego da4 offers a number of manual settings for greater creative freedom. It is thus possible to compensate exposure manually in one-third increments over +/-2.0 EV. The white balance also has presets for daylight, cloudy sky, tungsten or fluorescent light. The integral flash can be set for either fill-in, off or red-eye reduction. But the Prego da4 also offers a choice of metering methods: centerweighted average is supplemented by multizone and spot metering.

For even greater creative freedom, there is a self-timer with a delay of either 2 or 10 s. And in addition to single frames, the Prego da4 will also shoot continuously at an impressive five frames.

To capture those special moments you might wish to share with your friends in the form of video clips, the Prego da4 has a video mode as well as a built-in microphone and loudspeaker. As a result, video clips can be recorded with 20 images per second and 320 x 240 pixels, complete with sound. An internal memory of 16 MB offers sufficient storage space for recording still images and video clips in JPEG (EXIF 2.2), AVI und DPOF 1.1 formats. If you need even more storage space or wish to have your image data immediately available on a separate storage medium, you may use an SD or MultiMedia card. Alternatively, the stills and videos can be downloaded to a computer or TV set via a USB 2.0 or video interface (NTSC, PAL).
