The Fuji FinePix S602 Pro Zoom – responding to the demands of the serious user - digital camera and photography news

Fujifilm UK Release Date: 18th November 2002

Fujifilm today announced a new addition to its high performance FinePix range with the introduction of a ‘Pro' version of the acclaimed FinePix S602 Zoom. The FinePix S602 Pro Zoom builds on the sophisticated specification of the original model, adding a PC sync socket for connection to studio and external flash systems, plus a shutter release with threaded cable release socket. Finally, the inclusion of a Ni-MH rechargeable battery kit, plus a 340MB IBM Microdrive™ means that the FinePix S602 Pro Zoom is a complete out-of-the-box solution for the serious photographer looking for the ultimate in digital capture, without the expense or bulk of an interchangeable lens SLR. Rounding off the package, a new hard-wearing black finish is a perfect match for the camera's solidity.
Added ‘Pro' features at a glance: · PC sync socket for connection to studio and external flash systems · Manual (threaded) cable release socket · All-black finish · Fast battery charger, plus 4 Ni-MH AA batteries · Bundled 340MB IBM Microdrive™

Original FinePix S602 Zoom features at a glance: · 3rd Generation Super CCD sensor and advanced LSI algorithm (3.1 million effective pixels producing class-leading 6.03 million recorded pixels (2,832 x 2,128)) · High ISO values (up to 1600*) · New high-resolution electronic viewfinder with dioptre adjustment · Fastest autofocus in its class · Dual media slots for SmartMedia™ and CompactFlash™ Type II (IBM Microdrive™ compatible) · New 1cm Super Macro setting · High quality VGA movie capture at 30 frames per second, with sound · High-speed shooting at up to 5 frames per second · Multi, spot and average metering patterns · Powerful built-in flash · Easy-to-use Graphical User Interface * In 1280 x 960 mode only

PC sync socket for connection to studio and external flash systems Since its launch, the FinePix S602 Zoom has won a following among demanding photographers, both amateur and professional. Fujifilm have gone further in meeting the needs of these users by incorporating a PC sync socket, enhancing the camera's flash versatility. The PC socket means that the FinePix S602 Pro Zoom can be connected to off-camera flash units, thereby multiplying the array of possibilities open to flash users. Studio users will appreciate the ability to connect off-camera flash units to the S602 Pro Zoom, whilst macro photography enthusiasts will be particularly impressed with the ability to combine the 1cm close focusing ability with off-camera flash units.

The FinePix S602 Zoom's standard hotshoe remains, as does the built-in flash unit.

Manual (threaded) cable release socket Keeping things simple, Fujifilm have incorporated a threaded cable release socket into the shutter release button. Once again, both studio and macro photographers will appreciate the facility for being able to take photographs without risking camera shake. This socket accepts the standard threaded cable release.

All-black finish Distinguishing the ‘Pro' model from the current version, Fujifilm have introduced a hard-wearing, all-black finish to the camera. Photographers using this model will find that the FinePix S602 Pro Zoom is equal to demanding outdoor work.

Fast battery charger, plus 4 x Ni-MH AA batteries The FinePix S602 Pro Zoom gives out-of-the-box functionality with a rechargeable battery kit provided within the bundle, in addition to the standard 4 x alkaline non-rechargeable batteries. This means that the user can start using the S602 Pro Zoom straight away, whilst charging up the Ni-MH battery set, ready for future use.

Bundled 340MB IBM Microdrive™ Adding value to the package, Fujifilm have bundled the camera with a 340MB IBM Microdrive™, enabling the user to make full use of the S602 Pro's impressive 6MB picture output, right from the moment the box is opened. The Microdrive also provides additional storage capacity for video footage captured using the camera's high quality, 30 frames per second, VGA movie feature.

Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Consumer Products, commented, “Rather than tamper with the successful technology in the S602 Zoom, we felt that it would be worthwhile adding a couple of simple, but important, features that would assist the more serious photographer. The studio user, the macro user and anyone working with a tripod will instantly recognise what this new version could do for them. What is more, we think that the black finish looks pretty special, too.” Availability and Pricing

The FinePix S602 Pro Zoom will be available from Jessops and other specialist photographic retailers from mid November 2002 at a Suggested Retail Price of £849.99 (including VAT). The original FinePix S602 Zoom will continue to be available.
