2006 DIMA Digital Camera Shoot-Out Winners
|
The DIMA digital camera shoot-out event at the recent PMA show seems to have passed quietly and even had a significant smaller scope than before. In 2004 and 2005 we have seen winning digital cameras selected from 9 categories, 7 point-and-shoot digital cameras and 2 digital SLRs. This year we have seen only 3 winners in 6 point-and-shoot categories:
- $100 to $199 category: HP Photosmart M22
- $200 to $299 category: Pentax Optio W10
- $300 to $399 category: HP Photosmart R717
You wonder why, may be this is because of this years improved setup and more critical judges...

 ORLANDO, Fla. - Three digital cameras were named winners in the 10th Annual DIMA Digital Camera Shoot-Out at the PMA 2006 Annual Convention and Trade Show in Orlando, Fla. 17 digital camera entries and 7 manufacturers participated in the DIMA Digital Camera Shoot-Out, which took place on Saturday, Feb. 24.
Participating camera manufacturers captured images in a live-model studio. Images from the point-and-shoot cameras were printed on the Fuji Frontier 570, supplied by Fuji Photo Film U.S.A. Inc., Valhalla, N.Y. Color management support for the DIMA Digital Camera Shoot-Out was provided by GretagMacbeth LLC, New Windsor, N.Y., using Sony Artisan displays donated by Sony Electronics Inc., San Diego, Calif.
Professional imaging equipment used at the DIMA Digital Camera Shoot-Out was supplied by Booth Photographic Ltd., Epson America Inc., Fujifilm U.S.A. Inc., GretagMacbeth, GTI Graphic Technology Inc., and Quality Media & Laminating Solutions Inc. Professional photographer Rick Lucas lit the sets and ran the shot all the photos in the point-and-shoot categories.
A panel of expert judges voted on the entries, based on the overall quality of the digital print and the accuracy of color as compared to the GretagMacbeth Color Checker also held by the model in each photo. The panel of judges included Daniel Grotta and Sally Wiener Grotta of Digital Benchmarks and PC Magazine, and Phil Askey of DP Review, and David Etchells of Imaging Resource.
