Following the first endeavors by Omnivision and Sony, Toshiba now announces a new CMOS image sensor with 14.6 million pixels and back-side illumination (BSI) technology. In traditional image sensors the light entering the sensor is blocked by the wires, degrading the overall light sensitivity. In this BSI technology the lenses are attached to the back side of a substrate and deliver light directly to the photodiodes, without any interference from wiring.
