Samsung announces two new 1.4 micron CMOS imagers, adopting back side illuminated (BSI) pixel technology, each imager is optimized for smartphones resp. digital still and video cameras. In contrast to conventional front side illumination, backside illumination collects photons from the backside of the pixel and offers better performance in low light scenarios.
