Sharp, brilliant images through nanostructure lens arrays

Fraunhofer Research scientists have developed microscopically small nanostructure arrays of lenses that can record or project sharp images in brilliant colors. The pixels measuring a hundred nanometers are stored in a layer under the lens array. Such a microarray has around 250 microlenses and under each lens there's a micro image. The prototype of the new projector consists of an optical system just 11 mm square and 3 mm thick through which a powerful LED lamp shines, and will be shown at the nano tech 2011 trade show in Tokyo...
