Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits in Germany have developed a new system for rapid facial analysis. Highly complex algorithms can immediately localize human faces in an image, differentiate between men and women and analyze their expressions. On a standard PC, the calculations are carried out so quickly that mood changes can even be tracked live. If such an algorithm would be integrated in the Moment Camera (see our "Seize the moment" article), we would be able to set our digital camera to "happy face" mode...More
