July 23, 2007 - 10.30 GMT Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits in Germany have developed a new system for rapid facial analysis. Highly complex algorithms can immediately localize human faces in an image, differentiate between men and women and analyze their expressions. On a standard PC, the calculations are carried out so quickly that mood changes can even be tracked live.
