Nikon recalls some Coolpix 2000 cameras

August 12, 2002
A possible mechanical fault has been discovered in a number of Coolpix 2000 digital cameras.  This fault can result in severe overheating within the battery compartment.  Whilst it is unlikely that this will cause injury to users of this product, the problem is sufficient to result in the melting of the outside casing, causing irreversible damage to the camera.
Customers who own a product with the specified serial numbers are advised to cease its use immediately and follow the instructions of the Nikon distributor within their country.
