Olympus announces the 8 megapixel Stylus Verve 800 / µ DIGITAL 800 - digital camera and photography newsStylish, high-performance digital photography with 8.0 million pixels

Hamburg, 12 May 2005 – There's more to the µ DIGITAL 800 than meets the eye. Behind its stylish weatherproof* exterior, available in a choice of glossy dark blue or silver, Olympus packs a host of advanced features giving photographers incredible freedom. This 3x optical zoom camera boasts a huge 8.0 million pixel resolution to produce amazingly high-definition shots. And so that the results can be seen in all their glory, this model incorporates an extra-large 6.4cm LCD. Using HyperCrystal technology, the monitor assures wide viewing angles and clear views – even in bright sunlight. Together with the all-new Bright Capture Technology, it also significantly enhances views as well as shooting in extremely low-light situations. Moreover, options such as Aperture and Shutter Priority give users extra flexibility to pursue their creative urges.

While the ultra-compact µ DIGITAL 800 is small enough to fit into virtually any pocket, it produces huge 8.0 million pixel photos for shots that amaze with their extremely high definition. Its bright, 3x all-glass zoom lens system provides maximum image clarity. Thanks to the camera's high resolution, objects can also easily be enlarged using the 4x digital zoom. Image quality and operating speed are further optimised via the TruePic TURBO image processor.

Befitting the camera's high resolution, this model possesses a large, contrast-rich 6.4cm HyperCrystal LCD. 215,000 pixels and the special cell construction provide extremely wide angles of up to 160° and ensure clear views even in bright sunlight. Furthermore, utilisation of Bright Capture Technology enables easy framing on the LCD with just 1/5th the light ordinarily required for comfortable viewing.

Bright Capture Technology is also used to improve results for when shooting in low light. It virtually turns night into day** and reduces the need to use a flash by significantly increasing sensitivity. As faster shutter speeds can then be used, it also can help to avoid camera shake and blurry images.

To make photographer's life even easier, the µ DIGITAL 800 offers many other options to take perfect shots. Besides fully automatic shooting, users can choose from 19 scene programmes. Creativity is also encouraged. Aperture and Shutter Priority modes are on hand as well as the choice of Macro and Super Macro. Naturally, movie recording with sound in VGA quality is possible too. Despite all these options, even beginners will have no trouble using this camera thanks to the built-in Guide Function that reveals the purpose and recommended use of features directly on the LCD.

Images can be saved to either the 19MB internal memory or xD-Picture Cards – which are available in various capacities of up to 1GB. The handy Calendar Function lets shots be located with ease. Making prints without the need for a PC is also a breeze due to PictBridge compatibility.

Its formidable combination of innovative features makes the 8.0 million pixel µ DIGITAL 800 an ideal choice for all those looking for an ultra-compact, stylish camera with power to boot. It comes with the Olympus Master software for easy file management and will be available from July 2005.
