OVERVIEW |
Features and Benefits of this Upgrade
1) Addition of PTP Support:
The SET-UP menu now offers an Interface option containing Video Mode and USB settings. The former is identical to the existing Video Mode option that allows you to choose the video mode used when connecting the camera to a television. The USB option specifies the USB protocol used when the camera is connected to a computer. Two protocols are available: Mass Storage and PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol).
2) Addition of EXIF 2.2 Support
The Coolpix 885 now supports EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format for Digital Still Cameras) version 2.2, a standard that allows information stored with photographs to be used for optimal color reproduction when images are output on EXIF-compliant printers. PRINT Image Matching (PIM) is no longer supported. Users who require PIM should not install this update.
Section 1. About Firmware and the Firmware Uploader Software The “Firmware Uploader Software for the Coolpix 885 Ver.1.2” is a computer program that updates the firmware in your Coolpix 885 (E885). The firmware is a program, which runs inside the camera and controls its operation. By running the Uploader Software you will install the new firmware in the camera.
The process of transferring the new firmware from the computer to the camera is sometimes called “Uploading,” “Upgrading” or “Updating” the firmware.
The entire package (Uploader software and new firmware for the camera) is supplied in a single file, which is compressed for distribution over the Internet. Before performing a firmware update, you must de-compress the files back to their original format. The firmware updater cannot be run from the compressed folder.

Section 4. Confirming the Current Firmware Version
Switch the camera off. While holding down the Menu button, turn the camera on. Continue holding down the Menu button until the firmware version appears in the monitor. The LCD display will display ‘E885V”*.*”' where “*.*” represents the version number. If it reads “1.1” or earlier, your firmware can be updated. Switch the Coolpix 885 off. This completes the version confirmation procedure. |
